FIRELEX

Heat Resistant Tempered Glass

A Distribution Center
In Okayama
Special treated tempered
glass for fire resistance

Features and Advantages
Fire resistance

Classified by the Building Codes of Japan as to BOKA-SETSUBI (20 minutes fire resistance with specific frame).
Wireless

Fine, clear view as clear float glass.
Strength

More than the static breaking strength of tempered glass in the same thickness (conforms to JIS R3206).
Safety

FIRELEX breaks into innumerable small, cube-like fragments unlike annealed glass.

Applications
Fire doors and partitions of general construction.

Safety Precautions
The characteristics of tempered glass should be carefully considered when determining where it will be installed.

FIRELEX is available in flat plate only and cannot be processed by being drilled, notched, or bent. Since it cannot be cut or chamfered after manufacture, please make sure to specify the precise size and shape when ordering.
*Start heating up the specimen

*20 min. after heating
FIRELEX may break suddenly without any external force if a deep scratch in the glass enlarges, although this is rare.
In case of breakage, the whole surface of the glass could shatter and pieces may fall out, depending on the conditions of installation. Please consult us in advance if planning to install FIRELEX 3 meters or more above ground level.
FIRELEX may show more distortion in reflected images compared to ordinary flat glass, this is due to the heat treatment used in production. If the quality of reflected images is of importance, please consult our local agents prior to installation.

Design and Installation Precautions
Approval for a fire door is granted for the whole unit of glass with sash bars and frames, not by the glass alone. Please confirm the specifications before selecting and make sure they are approved.
If installation is carried out by methods or with the materials other than those specified in the diagram, performance as fire-rated equipment may be compromised. Please make sure of the specifications, as the location, area, and size of FIRELEX are restricted.
FIRELEX cannot be used for the roof in fire resistant construction or a skylight that requires more than 30 minutes of fire resistance. Aside from the use in fire resistance, FIRELEX should not be used for heaters which may be repeatedly exposed to temperatures 200 °C and higher.
The protective tape on the edges of FIRELEX should not be removed during installation. If the edges become scratched the glass may not perform well as a fire resistance. Caution should be taken when transporting and installing.
In calculation, wind pressure resistance strength should be considered as identical to that of standard tempered glass. The exception is that the deflection in glass is more noticeable in larger sizes, since it is approximately four times stronger than float glass.
